Riley Receives Agribusiness Award
January 2011

COLUMBIA, SC…Frazier D. “Buck” Riley, Jr., of Saluda was recently named recipient of the Outstanding Agribusiness Award for the Mid-State Region by the SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association at a state conference held in Charleston, SC.

Mr. Riley was presented a framed certificate and cash award by ArborOne Farm Credit who sponsors the recognition program in concert with the SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness organization.

Co-owner of F.D. Riley and Son, Mr. Riley is responsible for buying and replacing equipment, planning, quoting, and bidding jobs.  Starting the business in 1977 with the purchase of a bulldozer, Mr. Riley’s company now operates with 30 pieces of equipment.  Recent jobs include excavation work for Columbia Farms feed mill, erosion control work for Fort Jackson, and clearing of the Saluda Piggly Wiggly location.  Mr. Riley contributes much of the success of his operation to his father.

An FFA alumnus, Mr. Riley is also involved with the family dairy and beef cattle operation, Riley Farms, LLC.  He is an active member of the Saluda County Cattlemen’s Association, the Saluda County Forestry Association and the Saluda County Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter.

Amanda Nichols, Agricultural Education instructor at Saluda High School, serves as the professional advisor to the local Young Farmer and Agribusiness group.
