(June 18, 2012) The Saluda Young Farmer Scholarship is presented to five local students. Scholarship applications were judged and awarded based on Majoring in Agriculture or Related Field, Financial Need, Grades, Community Service/Involvement and Leadership Activities, and Essay. This year’s winners are Curtis Berry, Alex Coleman, Brad Werts, Chase Rodgers, and Corbin Yon.
Curtis Hunter Berry is the son of Luke Berry and Teresa Porter. He is a rising sophomore at Clemson University where he will be majoring in Animal Science-Pre-veterinary Medicine. After Clemson he wants to go to UGA for his vet degree and open a clinic in Saluda.
Alex Coleman is the son of Cheryl Coleman. He is a rising sophomore at Clemson University where he will be majoring in Ag Mechanics. After collage he plans on returning to Saluda to find a job locally.
Brad Werts is the son of Dave & Maribeth Werts. He is a rising freshman at University of South Carolina where he will be major in Accounting or Finance. After collage he plans on becoming a business leader in his field of study.
Chase Rodgers is the son of Mike & Tina Rodgers. He is attending Piedmont Technical College to major in Diversified Agriculture. His plans after college is to be involved in the agriculture industry in Saluda.
Corbin Yon is the son of Kevin and Lydia Yon. He is a rising freshman at Clemson University majoring in Animal Science. After college he hopes to return to family farm and work on Angus operation and expand to include row crops and/or sell commodities to other cattle producers.
