Saluda, SC (September 20, 2013) – The Saluda Young Farmer Scholarship is presented to three local students. Scholarship applications were judged and awarded based on Majoring in Agriculture or Related Field, Financial Need, Grades, Community Service/Involvement and Leadership Activities, and Essay. This year’s winners are Chris Ward, Brianna Rodgers, and Ciara Wertz.
Chris Ward is the son of Jason Ward and Tonya Gentry. He is a rising freshmen at Tri County Technical College’s Bridge program to Clemson University, majoring in Wildlife Biology. Chris was an active member of the Saluda High School FFA Chapter where he served as officer for two years and was on the 2013 state winning Dairy Judging team. After college he hopes to secure a job working with the SC Department of Natural Resources.
Brianna Rodgers is the daughter of Stacey and Tina Rodgers. She is a rising freshmen at Piedmont Technical College, majoring in Veterinary Technology. Brianna was an active member of the Saluda High School FFA Chapter and Saluda County 4H. After college she hopes to come back to Saluda and work with a local veterinarian.
Ciara Wertz is the daughter of Scott and Nicole Wertz. She is a rising freshmen at Brenau University, majoring in Biology. Ciara was active in the Saluda County 4H, Saluda High School Track and Cross Country, and was on the 2013 state winning FFA Dairy Judging team.
