Saluda, SC (July 18, 2014) – The William A Whitfield Saluda Young Farmer Scholarship is presented this year to four local students. Scholarship applications are based on the student being an agriculture major, financial need, their grades, community and leadership activities, as well as an essay. This year’s winners are:
Hannah is the daughter of Mr & Mrs James R Herlong, Jr. She is a rising freshmen at University of South Carlolina – Aiken where she will be majoring in Biology. Her future plans are to attend graduate school and obtain a Masters in Entomology.
Robert is the son of Andrew and Teresa Coleman. He is a rising freshmen at University of South Carolina – Columbia where he will be majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering. His future plans are to be a Civil Engineer with the SCDOT and rebuild our state infrastructure.
Ciara is the daughter of Scott and Nicole Wertz. She is a rising sophomore at Lander University where she is majoring in Biology. Her future plans are to conduct genetic research after college.
Chris is the son of Jason Ward and Tonya Gentry. He is a rising sophomore at Midlands Technical College. He plans to transfer to Clemson and major in Wildlife Biology. His future plans are to work with the Department of Natural Resources.
